Dr. Jean Snyder is the world’s leading scholar of Harry T. Burleigh. Her remarks on Burleigh at St. George’s Church draw from her career studying his impact in American music. Burleigh worked at St. George's Church for over fifty years. Snyder's most recent work on Burleigh is found in her book Harry T. Burleigh: From the Spiritual to the Harlem Renaissance (2016, University of Illinois Press).   

Dr. Snyder's remarks were part of the Harry T. Burleigh Society tribute to Burleigh's Annual Service of Negro Spirituals on Friday, March 31, 2017 at St. George's Church in New York City.
